Alooooooha!

Thanks Xtine for the greeting! I feel like I'm entering the online version of the Treasury in Petra....only the penitent will pass! Moai includes an 'A'! Lol. So, one thing to know about me is that I really, really like all of the Indiana Jones movies! Well, maybe not the fourth one so much...Marion was still pretty bad ass, but no one likes Shia Labeouf. I mean I'm sure he is a nice person and all, but....I digress.

What do you all want to know about me? I'm 5'2" on a good day. I can do a mean time step. And I'm not a fan of beets, yuck. There, I'm done.

In all seriousness, my name is Kristin. I reside in Kingston, NY with my husband, Sean and my fur babies, Guston a black, spaniel mix and Benny, a tuxedo cat with a crooked tail. Yes, all the men in my family own Tiki shirts. My paid gig is being a psychologist. Yes, I have already analyzed you, duh. No, I really don't do that, unless you do something analytically worthy, then, well, hmm

How did I come to Tiki culture? I think like most things in life, it evolved from something prior in my life. Loved the punk rock and rockabilly scenes in my teens and twenties. Then I got too old to go to shows. This girl likes to be snuggled up in her bed by 9:00 with her cat. Par-tay! So, I continued to dig around for other types of social activities...the swing dancing community is an interesting bunch. I do love dancing, the people, well, sometimes. But thanks to Google, I stumbled upon Ohana in Lake George, and it kinda took off from there!

I am a bit of history nerd, so after my first Ohana event in 2016, I bought books on the history of Tiki, the history of rum, the history of Easter Island, Moai, surf music, and why fez's ended up being the hat of choice in the aforementioned events. :fez: I tend to stay away from the online forums of tiki culture-too much of what is and isn't tiki, folks being a bit uppity IMO. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate true authentic tiki and have made it a point to visit the watering holes suggested by Critiki (insert prayers for the Mai Kai here). I'm just not into the showmanship that sometimes comes with these types of social groups/interests. I am, however, always happy to donate vintage tiki items I stumble upon for the auctions. And spend $250 on a dead fish that lights up. (Word to the wise, don't drink rum and try to make online bids when sitting in the sun. The rum, the glare, small numbers on the smart phone leads to a dead fish). But, as always, it's for the children! :D

So why my interest in the FOM? Swanky fez's aside, I like the idea of belonging to a group of people with mutual interests who enjoy both fun and philanthropy. I was a double major in Psychology and East Asian Studies in college (sorry, brag moment), so Polynesian culture, it's history and preservation is something that I can say I have had interest in, certainly enjoy learning more about, and celebrating!

Thanks for reading my ramble! And I hope to be able to meet you at an event soon! Mahalo!

Well Welcome Lady Brixotica !

As a former Coastie and lover of nautical things... The Hudson River Maritime Museum is on my hit list for places to visit. Hopefully this fall will bring us up that way. I believe its in your neighborhood. Been there ?

I feel like you should give beets another try... so here is a recipe for "cant-be-beet" tart with goat cheese ! :wowza:
https://www.cookinglight.com/recipes/cant-be-beet-tart-goat-cheese

I don't dance but I have to admit... big fan of the Electro Swing Mix genre.

Not sure how many penitent fellows you are going to find here but we got flocks of unrepentant. Flocks:fez: We think its a by-product of rum... and a bad batch of clones.

I feel pretty challenged to do something analytically worthy !

Yes, I have been to the Hudson River Maritime Museum! Right in my town, it's a nice place to visit. Please visit the Fuchsia Tiki Bar in New Paltz if time allows, you will not be disappointed.

Beets with goat cheese...beets with goat cheese...Ok, I'll give it a try :?

Thanks for responding to my post :)

Aloha! I knew I liked you!

FABULOUS mystery bowl dance at Ohana lady! Very impressive considering all the work you did the night before at the room crawl!

What Xtine said.
Thank you for your Mystery Bowl performance. Truly one for the books.
Which books?
All the books.
Great meeting you.
Apologies if we've met before.
I have no short term memory.
...or long term memory.

I've already forgotten where I was.
...or what I'm writing about.

What's going on?
Where are my pants?

Cheers and seriously, thanks again!

I'll take the Alohas to 11, and add a mahalo for the mystery bowl dance from another vantage point.

Many Mahalo's for stepping in at the 11th hour to help with our room crawl. We kind of had a mini panic with how we would lead the drunken masses through the convoluted trials of the henchmen and xtine said she thought you might like to help. So again mahalo and an apology because I don't think I met you. But, there will be another Ohana sooner than ever, so we'll fix that then, if not before.

 My goodness, thank you all for the compliments! The mystery bowl dance was definitely one to check off of the proverbial bucket list! And, AND! I now know how to make a quick blow dart should I find myself in a perilous situation..."Are these Nazi's, Walter?"

Welcome fellow Mystery Bowl Dancer! Woot woot!

My father used to open a can of beets and serve them to me as a kid. Hated beets until until I tried them roasted. I agree they taste wonderful with goat cheese!

Great to see you on the boards,
