I made my first journey to Ohana this past weekend as a vendor and participant. This has been a journey I’ve wanted to take since 2010.

I had the opportunity to speak with so many amazing people. Everyone was so accepting of me and my walking stick.

I will share a bit about me. I tend to gravitate to the weird. I love to create things. I create prints from woodcuts, wood engravings and Lino cuts. I do a lot of work with wood. I recently completed my home tiki bar and I am now working on carving my own “Witco” inspired bar stools.

I have had an interest in South Pacific culture for years. I found it interesting when taking some art history courses back in the early 1990s. It wasn’t until I bought a home that I started to look for tiki mugs and island art and design. I live in a mid century ranch home in Buffalo, NY.

As for employment. I work for a toy company. My job is test toys with electronics to make sure they work as intended.

Given your locale, do you happen to work for Fisher-Price? Asking, as I started my career there many moons ago......

ALOHA!

As a matter of fact yes. It’s an amazing place to work. I’ve worked for them for 7 years this November. And I was a contractor for them for the ten years prior.

Aloha!

Aloha! Welcome to the shores … and loved the art you had on display this past weekend. Good to see you pulling up a seat. And good to know you can carve your own!

What’s your favorite cocktail?

Super cool!!
I was there in the Insights group from ‘91-‘95. We did our very first electronic toys when I was there & I did some of the research on those.
Great place to work - really enjoyed it!! Very fun company.

Thank you so much. I am so glad I made it to Ohana this year. Everyone was so nice.

As for my favorite cocktail I have a hard time deciding between a traditional Mai-Tai and a Pineapple Sour. It all depends on what I’m in the mood for.

May I ask what your favorite cocktail is?

That’s really cool! You may know my aunt who worked there back then.

Absolutely! I’m tempted to steal someone else’s response by saying “the cocktail sitting in front of me” (lol) but my favorites are Jet Pilot, Cobra’s Fang, and Nui Nui! (Notice how I couldn’t narrow down to one!)

Why commit to one when there are so many great cocktails!

I have been meaning to try a Jet Pilot and Cobra's Fang for a while. I am hopeful that I can mix up one of each soon at my home bar and do them justice. As for the Nui Nui! it has not been on my list but it is being added today.

I did not know what to expect for my first year at Ohana! but after reflecting on the weekend I think I am most excited for seeing old friends and new on my return.

This is to anyone who feels compelled to answer. Is there one thing you look forward to every year at Ohana? and if so what is it?

Mahalo!

Aloha Rocket Betty,

It was nice to meet you as well. I wish I had more time to spend speaking with all the vendors. It is so hard to be able to do that.

By the way I love you work.
