Ahurricane

1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce fresh oj

All of these can be pre-squeezed in one large batch so that you have an equal mix of each together in a pitcher. So just make a big thing of equal parts oj, lemon juice, and lime juice. Then add 1 and 1/2 oz of that for each drink. Make extra, because that is also the stuff you need for Ahu Sour Mix. All you do is take the leftover juice and cook it with sugar. Yum!

3 oz of Coruba dark rum
2 oz of Cruzan light rum

3 and 1/2 oz of homemade passion fruit syrup

1/2 oz homemade grenadine

All ingredients shaken with cracked ice and served in a proper hurricane glass. Garnish with one cherry and an orange wheel. Drop in a straw.

Damn, that sounds good right about now!

And that's what makes New York, and by extension this country, great (cue "God Bless America" in background). To each his own happy hour, I say! Myself, I'll stick with the ice being crushed, but that's a choice I get to make freely (swell of music). I look forward to having some beverage with that ice, too.

And be sure to have a garnish in that drink! No garnish is un-American.

I love this place. Only 3 posts to go all the way from a dick joke to commentary on the patriotism of garnishes.

As the Bard once said....

Speaking of garnish, it is about that time again.

We are at a dinner party tonight so this puts us at the mercy of our hosts unless I decide to pre-game. What is everyone else up to?

Ha, nicely done! I can't wait to peruse that menu in person. We're getting kicked out of work early due to a move, so I'll be moseying on down there in a little while. Aloha!

We just threw a major report out the door, so I'm starting right about now. All we have at the office is beer, but I'll make do somehow.

FOr some reason (I mean a reason other than the fact that they're awesome) but for some reason, I've been craving a Suffering Bastard all day (No Jon, not you...the drink...gotta pre-emptive with the "comedians" around here)

So, I think that'll be the first thing I do when I get home....and the second thing....and probably things 3 thru 5.

Thanks for the kind words Matty - I wish I could take credit, but the internet makes copyright infringement just too easy.

Wish we could come down for your party next week - have a great time

Nothing like practice, to get things right! I back a work ethic like that.

You know, I just finished a show, and there was this guy from Bermuda who came and brought us a bottle of Goslings Black Seal. You know, it tasted just like the Black Seal we get here! None of this "oooh, that Bacardi I had at the distillery was waaaayy better!" or, "That Heineken over there in Europe just tastes better, not skunky like here." NO SIREE!!!! That Black Seal tastes as good as the stuff we get here, no better!

Just under 3 hours until the 3 day weekend begins, I think I'll also try some variations on the Singapore sling, but I'm sure I'll have time to try lots of different concoctions as we've got almost no plans for the whole weekend.

After we deal with sustenance (we have no food at home) I am headed for the bar.

I have some items in the Grog Log I want to try/revisit.

We, on the other hand, are planned out BUT for once I got out early so am currently grilling kielbasa & squash and enjoying a Boomerang courtesy VL. Just finished a Rum Julep & it was good. The ol 8 track is cranking Capt Beefheart & Kiss. Not sure I could think of a better scenario right now.

Bad doggie!

Well, we finally got the bar open around 9:30. Sigh.

I decided to start with Colonel Beach's Plantation Punch with metal foil umbrellas for the garnish.

Mmmmmmm..... shiny.

Swizzle requested something with minimal ingredients -- we got a late start and she wanted to expedite the process -- so I whipped up the Aurora Bora Borealis from the Grog Log.

Light PR rum, dark J rum, lime juice and coconut cream, with a dash of OJ and Orgeat. Frothy coconut goodness!

Six ingredients and a blender, I like your definition of "minimal."

I had a similar thought around 11pm and ended up with the Outrigger since (a) we had one lemon left and (b) 90% of the effort is the sugar-frosted glass anyway.

My original plan was for 1934 Zombies, so relatively speaking the ABB called for fewer ingredients. :)

Loki and Stumpgrinder recommended this little BeirGarten in Pompano Beach last night.....

Image
So many to choose from....

I'll take them all!

This one made me nervous, but turned out to be really good!

LuRu ordered this one. It was actually pretty good. But it was hard to drink after E33 pointed out that it sounds like Banana Hammock!

For tonight's Happy Hour...... I will continue to work on the Mr. Pink Pants cocktail. As soon as it is completed I will share the cocktail and the story of the name.
