I might blame my Amazon Prime account but every time I went in there, there was no one to help me and no product on the shelf. I'm sure Amazon will still treat us well after all other stores are gone.

Amazon will be as good to us as Home Depot was after the local lumberyard and hardware stores closed up doors. But not as nice a Walmart, where Rev. Dan gets his tires, is after the town main street was shuttered.

Before the Sears catalog, not everyone had equal access to manufactured goods. People whose DNA expressed a different outward appearance than the local shop owner's might find price gouging or be refused service all together. The Sears catalog made everybody's money equal, at least when buying mail order.

I love this take on it, even though it makes me that much sadder to see them go. (I was just as sad to see what they've become in the last 15 years, I guess...)

I am always on the lookout for old catalogs, Sears and the like, as they're so much fun to read through.

I have several books that are actual compilations of everyday fashions from the Sears catalog. I have the 1920s, 1940s, and 1950s. As a costumer, these are amazing references for what much of America wore during those times.

RIP Sears. You had a good run.

Now I need to research who gobbled up the Kenmore sewing machine brand. One was given to me and I know i’ll Need parts at some point. Hmmmm.....

Sears parts catalogs were and amazing resource. I've used the parts diagram to find bearing numbers for tools close to 100 years old.

As far as Kenmore sewing machine parts, most of the class 15 machines were rebranded. There are parts interchange lists.

My Kenmore stand mixer will be more challenging. With Sears gone, I have to rethink my plans to shift to a rebuilt Sunbeam Mixmaster 14.

Craftsman now lives at Lowes. I favor Home Depot because Lowes is owned by foreign devils but I might make an exception for Craftsman.

As far as I know Kenmore was always a fake brand--always made by another company but usually good quality. But Wrangler and Westinghouse went out of business years ago and somehow they're in stores.

Very sad.

We almost bought an original Sears Roebuck house. It would have been a hell of a fixer upper though so we passed. However whenever I drive by I hope the current owners treat it well. It's crazy to think you could order a house through a catalog. Sears will forever live on in my kitchen as I'm quite the collector of the Merry Mushrooms from the 70s.

I’m guessing it was the lifetime of Sears, not your (or my) tools.

Fortunately, the brand was sold to Stanley Black & Decker in 2017, and they said they'd honor the warranties. The lifetime warranty was only on hand tools, as I recall, in recent years.
Most power tools were just a year.
