Aloha. Welcome to the Port. Set a spell and tell us a bit about yourself. The Texas folks will be along in a bit.

I was 49 years old before I knew how to drink correctly.

Before that, I was living in a world of syrupy concentrated blendered boat drinks, and thought I was happy.

Then I read Martin Cate's "Smuggler's Cove", and discovered I had no idea what I was doing.

Since then, I have pursued the mysteries of the tiki cocktail, and am always discovering a new, hidden tropical oasis in every garish mug or flowered, icy glass. I briefly considered opening a tiki bar, and was investigating marketing and financing options, when a great friend and colleague talked me out of it, and suggest I start blogging instead. That was the birth of TheTikiTexan.

I am now 50 years old, and live in the Katy/Houston Texas area. I continue to hone my mixology craft, and practice at every opportunity.

I have a few close friends whom also share a passion for things Tiki. We ourselves started a fraternal organization, aptly named T.I.K.I. ... Tropics Inspired Knights of Inebriation. In our search for fellow organizations, we discovered the Fraternal Order of the Moai, and here I am!

Aloha and Welcome to the Port!

Smugglers Cove is excellent. A couple of others to try would be anything by Jeff Berry (Sippin Safari, Grog Log, Intoxica, etc...), Phillip Greene's To Have And Have Another or the app, "Tiki +".

Just my two shots worth.

I wouldn't say we "hang out" at Lei Low. We've been a couple of times.

There are things I love about Lei Low, and things I would definitely change about it if it were my bar.

We do like to go to New Orleans and hang out at Lattitude 29 and Tiki Tolteca.

I could say that about so many bars.

(Un)fortunately I do not want to own a commercial bar.

So, while we're just hanging out... here's a pic of my home Tiki Bar. Comments welcome!

I recently finished Berry's Potions of the Caribbean. The TIKI Knights had the pleasure of being served an Admiral Rodney rum by the Beachbum himself from his private stock when we were at Lattitude 29 last year.
