While musing on an another thread I mentioned a song that really got my tiki/exotica blood stirring... one that really portrays the ambience, mood and character of exotica and Polypop in my view. Granted there are probably many, many more but here's my offer... feel free to add your favorite. Might end up on a mix CD at Ohana, even!

Again, too many to count, but here are some of the old school stuff that always works for me:

Beyond the Reef
Left Arm of Buddha
Adventures in Paradise
Moon of Manakoora

Many old hapa haole songs, too.

I also listen to a LOT of contemporary Hawaiian/Pacific, and that's a whole thread of it's own.

Classic! I throw Taboo in that same category. Hard to forget your firsts in my case (some of the first music I heard as I was just getting into the culture).

And in our household, our go-to ramp-up song to activity, or when we're on our way somewhere to something fun ... it's hard to pass up The Hukilau Song.

Definitely Quiet Village, but that may be because it's the easiest to remember.
I like mostly all exotica.

Some have just become anthems though. You just have to hear them if you go to a tiki bar.

If I had to pick only one song, "Quiet Village," as recorded by Martin Denny, the original mono version.

Of course, I am obsessed with the genre. There is a huge amount of breathtaking material available.

Love the Don Ralke, btw, also.

At night, when the torches are lit, I almost always turn to Bill Jafee and his Islanders - "Hawaiian Paradise"

We need to add Ohana to this list under Revivial.

my exotica playlist always starts with augie colon, "minamahal, sinasamba," so i have developed a pavlovian reaction to the song - when i hear it on a saturday, i know it's time to relax and drink, and probably grill and have a bonfire :fez:

I know the Islanders did this, but I heard Dennys version first. And of course there is the moog version. This is my favorite though.

How do you implant those youtube videos here? I never spent the time to figure that out.

(You'll be sorry that I know how to do that now.)
