Spirit Airlines is running a special from Denver to Ft. Lauderdale in May - only 29 bucks each way!

You could make back your airfare at one Mai Kai happy hour. :drunk:

Spirit runs specials that come and go pretty quickly. It pays to sign up for their notices. I've flown from DC to Ft Lauderdale as low as $8 each way because of these insane specials (even with fees at the time, it came to only $40 each way). Keep an eye on them, if you have the flexibility, you'll do very well.

Caveat, they have some of the smallest seats in coach (all the seats, other than 4-8 of the seats are coach), they will tag a fee to bags, advanced seating assignment,...water.

Yeah, I didn't get in on it.
Still, looks pretty cheap regularly, though.
As long as they don't have a problem with me bringing my zip lock bag with 50ml bottles of Sailor Jerry on the plane, I think Spirit and I might get along just fine.

It's not Spirt you have to worry about.... it's the FAA they really frown on people drinking their own booze on a flight.

I got in trouble for this once, something about crossing state lines with open containers... airlines pay a fee to do this... don't make me get the Captain... blah blah blah...

Might be the airline you're choosing.
The TSA has absolutely no problem with it at all. You just have to pull the baggie out and put it in the tray so they can see it.
I only ever fly Southwest, and have never ever had a problem with it. I just order a ginger ale from the flight attendant and start pouring the booze. The most notice I've ever gotten over it is a wink and a nod.
This practice, and a half an Ativan, is the only way you're ever gonna get me on a plane.
I would imagine, though, that the major airlines of the United and AA ilk would probably frown upon the practice as they hate our freedoms.
Southwest über alles!

The TSA is a bit inconsistent about this but many frequent flyers will tell you that they have tossed a few mini bottles of booze in their approved one quart 3-1-1 bag and gone through security ok.

Or come to NH where the state liquor commission just built a full liquor store inside the terminal past security so you can buy booze and take it on the flight.

Brilliant.

While the TSA may allow bottles on board, the FAA has a regulation (see d) requiring the flight attendant to serve it to you or be reported:

Sec. 121.575 Alcoholic beverages.

(a) No person may drink any alcoholic beverage aboard an aircraft
unless the certificate holder operating the aircraft has served that
beverage to him.
(b) No certificate holder may serve any alcoholic beverage to any
person aboard any of its aircraft who--
(1) Appears to be intoxicated;
(2) Is escorting a person or being escorted in accordance with 49
CFR 1544.221; or
(3) Has a deadly or dangerous weapon accessible to him while aboard
the aircraft in accordance with 49 CFR 1544.219, 1544.221, or 1544.223.
(c) No certificate holder may allow any person to board any of its
aircraft if that person appears to be intoxicated.
(d) Each certificate holder shall, within five days after the
incident, report to the Administrator the refusal of any person to
comply with paragraph (a) of this section, or of any disturbance caused
by a person who appears to be intoxicated aboard any of its aircraft.

Here's a great article about squeezing the last dollar out of deals from Spirit Airlines.

I did not know that.
Even more reason for me to stay with SW, seeing as they've never ratted me out.
Thank you Southwest Airlines!
