I'm sorry. I got busy and didn't have time to get back here and check this forum. I didn't know about all the welcomes. Thanks!

It's Friday and I decided to check back to see what people are doing tonight. I feel like going out.

I'm going to read the forum some more.

Thanks,
Spaceboy

Here's a bit about myself.

My name is Don, I'm 41 years old, I live in the Hilltop in Columbus, I'm an artist, I do computer graphics and 3D animation for a living, mostly working on commercials, but I've recently been working on a locally made feature film.

I wear shorts and Hawaiian print shirts almost all summer, and I like cocktails, especially if they contain Blue Curacao.

Back in the summer of 2001 I dug a hole and built a small hot tub size pool in my back yard out of concrete and rocks. The following year I added on a waterfall. Recently this year I replaced my water heater with a new tankless model, so I can now fill up the pool with hot water, if I have enough time to pump out the cold water first. I haven't had nearly enough parties though, but it's very enjoyable.

Since finding this group, I have been toying with the idea of building a large moai out of concrete and stucco mesh in my back yard to round out the tiki sanctuary. I am thinking of making the top of the head into a big torch so it has flames for hair.

Also in the past couple of years I've been helping out with The Ooh La Las Modern Burlesque Troupe. It's a bit of striptease, singing, and comedy. I do theatre tech sort of stuff, and I'm also very good at thrift store shopping for costumes and props. I even created and produced one of the sketches that they did. It involved women in military uniforms, I Dream of Jeannie and Osama Bin Laden. I even built Jeannie's fez. It was a lot of fun. There was a great hot tub party afterwards too. They're a fun bunch of women.

A few years ago I started an online Columbus filmmakers club. We now have meetings the first Monday of each month at Victorian's Midnight Cafe on the corner of 5th and Neil Ave. at around 7:00 pm. The next one is this Monday night, the 3rd of October. It's very informal most of the time. You can have a beer or a coffee and hang out and chat about film. Sometimes we watch people's indy films.

Well, that's it in a coconut shell. I hope to meet up with all of you soon.
Thanks,
-Spaceboy

Spaceboy, you sound like a nut. OUR kind of nut. Splendid credentials. The idea of a flame-topped moai is super! Hope to be calling you a Fellow Moai soon.

Building the small pool was a fun project, not too difficult and not too expensive either.

I collected a lot of my materials from a construction site. No, I didn't steal anything. They had dug up a huge pile of river rocks as well as some steel rebar and the construction people said I could have it. The rocks were really nice and mostly smooth. I'm sure they would have been expensive to buy.

I also got some of the concrete blocks from a company near by. They have a "junk" pile which contained partial pallets of special ordered blocks, as well as broken and chipped blocks. All this was free for the asking.

The hardest part was digging the hole, which I did by myself with a shovel. If you can afford it, rent a backhoe.

this means somthing.. this really means somthing sculpt sculpt.....(Ok I couldnt thing what noise scuplting taters would be)
Of course While Finkus points out that sculpting Moai in yer taters is a sure sign of insanity.. Carving up 2 steaks to form the Hawaiin island chain and turning your taters into a volcano complete with uncomfortable silence Lava... in addition to a slew of Moai..... You know your one of us... one of us.. one of us...

Aloha,

I tried to register on the gallery page, but couldn't. I guess I'm not a full member yet.

Anyway, when I can, I'll upload a picture.

I'm very disappointed that I haven't had a party at my house this year. I'm hoping that there will still be some warm weather, and if I fill my waterfall pool with hot water, it won't matter.

See ya,
Spaceboy

Nope, you are a full-fledged Fellow Moai. The Gallery is open to registration, but access once you are registered still requires my approval for security reason. Soooo... I just opened your access now and you should be able to upload anything you want now (pics, zip files, music, video snips, etc.)

I wondered what was going on. I got the e-mail saying I had registered, but the link didn't work.

Thanks! I'll upload some photos and stuff soon.
