Playing a little too much D&D are we? lol

My happy hour consisted of Diet Mountain Dew fron Grant ER at 3:00 in the blessed AM!!! The patient had abdominal pain for over a week but it suddenly became an emergency at three in the morning. Lucky me. lol

I love my job between the hours of 10:00am and 10:00pm.

I'm drinking something like 'Old Russian Stout' but am too lazy to go re-read the label.
Here's the recipe, if anyone's interested:

1. Open bottle (I'm currently using a refrigerator-magnet opener, but any kind of bottle opener should work).
2. Pour contents of bottle (this should be beer) into a glass. Mine is a schooner with the "Keep on Truckin'" guys from
Tony Danza's tattoo, although any glass should work, even if you got it from Cheeseburger in Paradise.
3. This is the important step. Drink the beer. I have an extra thing I like to do, which is to repeat steps 1 through 3.

We're under a blizzard warning, with lots of blowing snow, so I got out the Grog Log last night to try some new recipes. We sat by the fire and enjoyed a Chief Lapu Lapu, Trader Vic Grog and Rum Lift. They all were quite good, but we liked the Chief Lapu Lapu best.

Chief Lapu Lapu
3 oz. orange juice
3 oz. sweet & sour
1 oz. passion fruit syrup

1 1/2 oz. dark Jamaican rum
1 1/2 oz. light Puerto Rican rum

Shake with ice cubes and pour into large snifter partly filled with more ice cubes.

I am fortunate enough that I live walking distance from the Short North and I ended up at Surly Girl last night. Didn't have any rum drinks (sadly) but I tried their Six-Shooter which had several fruity vodkas in it. It was nice and made me happy, even with all the snow.

I could use something warm and alkyholik though this morning after shovelling out the stoop, half of the cars and the front entrance to the parking lot here. :| Why does no one else here own a shovel? I know we're in apartments but come on!

Wow, Friday night at prime time and there are no new posts to tell me what everyone's drinking. There's just something wrong about it is all. Well I'll jump start the mofo. I will echo the sister in law: the week blew, emphasis on the word blow. In fact emphasis on the word motherfuckmymanager. Got off tonight at 8:45, not the worst anyone's seen but pretty sad for a Friday, and pretty criminal to have to miss H-hour at the Velveteen Lounge, with its fine mix of highballs and 1950's party food. No cocktails to go could be had so I found myself two tacos and a Beck's in Hoboken as my usual fave Ballantine was out of stock. All hail old man beer. My craw has been filled for now. Home soon, more later.

Having a cocktail (alpha version of the Kon-Tiki chapter cocktail) and a slice of cold spam. Listening to the IZ in Concert
CD right now.

One week of class left and I'm about to stick a fork in my eye. This quarter needs to end NOW!! Heading to bed when this drink is done.

At lunchtime yesterday, I popped out of the office and thought, this would be a great night for a picnic, so after work I made a quick batch of wings and LuRu made a cold green bean/artichoke/tomato salad and we poured a bottle of pinot noir into a a couple of sports bottles and headed toward the beach. Unfortunately, just as we opened the door to head to the car, we felt some sprinkles, so we went with a faux picnic on the Florida room floor. We did open all the windows and felt the cool breeze.

Tonight's cocktails should be more interesting as I'm spending my afternoon making ingredients (orgeat, hibiscus liqueur, and who knows what else will strike my fancy) and editing the merman.

That' s more like it, Hep, you d'man, er, d'moai. Waikikian does sound ver' tasty, might have to try that tonight, after all I am STILL now on the train so will clearly need 2 or 3 (4,5,6...) cocktails to restore my sense of balance here.
Of course, this is a full two weeks later here and this topic has been barren. Come on you lushes, give up with the details! I didn't post last Friday because I was in Mexico and was not going anywhere near a desktop. Still I found time to invent a new cocktail:
http://velveteenlounge.koalakabana.net/ ... ek310.html which I am enjoing again tonight. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now that's better

It's true, that recipe was subjected to extensive testing for two solid days.

That week did pass awfully quickly. I figured I was just abducted by aliens and lost time.

Ok, new Friday=new happy hour. Tonight's special is Navy Grog by request and some thing I'm working on. The Grog is good work, particularly after this week which can rot in the dustbin for all I care. I like my Grog this way:

.5 oz lime juice
.75 oz grapefruit juice
.5 oz simple syrup
.5 oz pimento
1 oz Myers
1 oz spiced rum--used Sailor Jerry

Some make this with 3 oz likker but I think that's too strong.

So folks, whatcha drinkin'?

Wednesday night's happy hour drink ... the gin fizz.

Using Robert Hess' recipe from his small screen network show. Very crisp, refreshing, & easy!
http://www.smallscreennetwork.com/video/85/gin_fizz/

The Gin Fizz
* 1 1/2 oz gin (I've been using Plymouth, very tasty gin!)
* 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
* 1/4 oz simple syrup
* top with soda water

tools: soda syphon
glassware: highball, old fashioned
garnish: lemon wedge

Mmm, that sounds tasty. I'll have to try one of those Friday. (Note to self: purchase lemons.)

These have been a pre-brunch/early evening staple at the Rhum Rhum Room lately - try them with champagne instead of soda water - a Royal Gin Fizz. Very nice.

This weekend I'm looking forward to a Corn 'n Oil:

1.5 Cruzan blackstrap (I may try Goslings for a change)
0.5 Falernum (homemade - you may want to use less if you use store-bought)
squeeze lime wedges to taste (2 for me)

smooth...since I made a shitload of falernum last week I'm trying it in everything. FYI - tastes like crap on eggs.

I've always known the champagne version as a French 75, though the proportions might be slightly different. It has become my favorite brunch cocktail. One time we ran out of simple syrup, so I subbed grenadine and that worked well.

I think I would consider ice cream rather than eggs.

Way to keep me honest, Don. I mixed up (ha!) my Gin Fizzes.

You are correct, sub champagne for soda in a Gin Fizz for a French 75, leave the soda and add an egg white for the Royal Gin Fizz.

As punishment I will drink all of them this weekend until I learn the difference. I may even throw in a Royal French 75 to make sure I really learn my lesson. No mercy!!

I figured for Happy Hour, I'd share the recipe for the Queequeg Chapter's Official Cocktail...

Queequeg's Harpoon

Pappy was the one taking notes as we refined it (The Mayor & Professah started work on it awhile ago) and here's what he's got...

pappythesailor wrote:
Oh, yeah. OK.

So it's:
1 oz crab juice
1 oz Queequeg's blood*
1 tablespoon Boston baked beans
1/2 oz ambergris
6 oz Thomas Tew's Secret Overproof

Microwave 2 minutes, serve piping hot.

*note: Queequeg's Blood is NOT actual blood from the members of the chapter...it's the secret ingredient-for real. Once we get you hooked on the cocktail, you can buy bottles of Q.B. at hugely inflated prices! Look for it soon in the Coconut Economy!!! Also, i would suggest only HIGHEST quality Crab Juice. You may find it listed as Crab Extract...this is perfectly suitable.

If'n I said it once, I said it 100 times. "Queequeeg's Harpoon" is the best drink name since "The Headhunter". Bravo, guys.
bargoyle wrote:

I'm glad you went with that instead of "Queequeeg's essence". That would sound kinda icky.
