I am very happy indeed on this Happy Hour!

Leisure Master got me messing around with Sazeracs and I finally got comfortable with my straight take with rye.
So it seemed about time to try a rum version, and here's what I consider a very happy result!

El Dorado Sazerac

2 oz El Doarado EHP Single Barrerl Rum
Herbsainte (or in this case I only had Vieux Carre Absinthe available)
2 dashes Peychaud Bitters
1 demerara sugar cube (or better, demerara simple)
lemon twist

Chill one Old Fashioned glass with ice and water.

In a second old fashioned glass, muddle the sugar, bitters, and a splash of water so that the sugar is crushed fine.
Add the rum and stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Empty the first glass and pour enough of the Herbsainte (or Absinthe) to coat the glass. Discard the excess.

Add ice (medium size cubes) to the second glass. Stir until cold. I do 50. Strain into the first glass. Rub the rim with the lemon twist then twist over the cocktail to release it's oil. I understand it's more authentic to discard the twist at this point, but I usually plunk it into the glass anyway.

Cheers!

The drywall was hung today in the basement tiki bar. Swizzle and I are celebrating with Test Pilots and Jet Pilots.

Tonight's happy hour drink is from my first, and unfortuantely only, visit to Boston's "Drink." Martiki-Bird, Professah Humming Flowah and the Mayor of Exotica were there!

The Forte Fours (rum old fashioned)

La Favorite Rhum Agricole Blanc
Plantation Jamaican rum 2000
Lemon Hart 151
Old Monk 7 Year

Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel-Aged bitters
Fee Brothers Chocolate bitters
Angostura Aromatic bitters
Angostura Orange bitters

Cheers!

tick tock, it's just about that time here on the east coast. I hit two deadlines about 20 minutes ago. Can't wait to begin the weekend!

So here it is Saturday evening and I've been dry for 10, yes 10 full, busy, days. Finally off call, Im sitting down with a Mai-Tai to savor its delicate flavor before moving on to something else. Haven't quite decided yet if it will be a Scorpion, Jet Pilot or Test Pilot.

Decisions, decisions...

63 degrees in Chicago today and I needed one of my favorite summer cooler...Jack Daniels and cranberry juice. Delish! Sat on my deck watching the rain and knocked back three with no problem. Happy Tuesday!

No one here has a case of the Mondays any more...

a little honey mix that needed usin', a spot of heavy cream left from last week's cupcake icing for a friend's b-day and the last two lemons = Skin Divers.

I really really like using things ALL up. Just ask Ted...letting things go bad and having to throw them out bugs the shit outta me. So this drink is double delicious due to the satisfaction of stuff not going to waste!! Mmmmmmmmmmmm

I feel exactly the same way about using things up - I loves mixing up a leftover colada.

Wocka Wocka Wocka!

I have a new bottle of El Dorado Spiced Rum and I plan on waiting out the blizzard with a Seven Seas Grog or two, which is close to a Dark & Stormy.

(Holy crap, I just looked out the window at 11:10am and it's whipping up a snowy gale already! The bad stuff isn't supposed to hit our area until about 3pm. Stay safe and cozy, Northeasterners!)
