I am kai ahe--tempter of fates--and I am SOOOOO not giving up bacon!!! Or hotdogs . . .or burgers . . . or Buffalo wings . . . or ribs (mmmm . . .ribs  ). All else is negotiable. Oh, wait . . . steak . . . I'm not giving up steak either. Better buy me a Mai Tai or two while you still can--it seems I'm doomed.

The article itself does not support its inflammatory title. Further, if the carcinogenic link were proven, then Michael Sullivan & Matthew Hull have been dead for the past 10 years. That's probably appropriate in this season, but hey.

How about those gouchos in Argentina? Maybe they are zombies on horseback and these anti bacon freaks are really right.

While we all knew bacon wasn't exactly health food, the article bummed me out. For about a day.

Then this morning I bought some pancetta. Bacon-ish, but Italian, so it's...oh, let's go with metric, and once you've converted that from Euros, all the cancer-y stuff is gone.

Right?

http://flowingdata.com/2015/11/03/meat-and-cancer/

Quote:
Meat as a cause of cancer has been the news as of late. Aaron Carroll for the Upshot describes why we should make a note but not freak out about it.

Quote:
This means that, if I buy what the W.H.O. is saying, if I decided today to start eating an extra three pieces of bacon every day for the next 30 years, my risk of getting colon cancer might go from 2.7 percent to 3.2 percent. In other words, if 200 people like me made that decision, one extra person might get cancer. The other 199 would be unaffected.

It's about understanding risk.

i recall in the 1980s, researches found that very high exposure to chocolate caused cancer as well, but i don't foresee that having any political value, so we will never hear about it.
