Aloha Fellows, Initiates, and Tourists, the Gumbo Limbo Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Moai invites you to Limbo Break 2018, a spring break if you will for tikiphiles. We'll spend the evening of Friday March 2 at the Mai Kai. I'll be making a dinner reservation soon, so please post or pm me if you will be joining us for dinner.

We're also having a Carving and Uke Jam on Saturday the 3rd. The Mighty Oz and Tiki Renee will open their home to carvers of all skill levels to work together side by side sharing tips and stories. Tony Baloney is bringing several ukuleles and will give lessons to beginners and jam with everyone. We'll start carving at noon and we'll provide lunch and drinks. We'll wrap up in time to head back to the Mai Kai Saturday night.

Aloha All!

We will open our doors at noon for anyone who wish to carve wood, wax, clay or any other craft (please bring your own tools, bandaids or superglue). A lunch will be served (buffet style) and drinks (though those carving with sharp objects should abstain until they are done). We will plan on ending around 5pm for those who wish to visit the Mai-Kai for a continued evening of fun and frivolity.

A menu of food and drinks will be posted later along with the address and any other details.

This event will be open to FOM and friends of FOM.

OZ and TikiRenee

thanks for organizing these events!

to help the newbies - can someone comment on what would be included in a decent beginner set of carving tools (certain chisels, saws, whathaveyou?)

As the Jam approaches, I've been able to grab a couple of palm logs and some (unknown) wood logs.

Please bring tools for your carving project as my chainsaw is not really good for carving. We have plenty of extension cords for dremels or other devices.

We are setting up some tents and tables but if you have an extra chair or two, we can always use extras. The Uke jam will be under the Tiki hut or wherever Tony is comfortable.

Food, beer, wine, three different punches and water will be available.

See you all soon!

For those wishing to join in on the carving, please feel free to bring tools (and extension cords if needed). I will bring my rotary tool for smaller carving. I'd also like to offer a how to on making these bracelets (and add it towards one of my merits.

This is amazing and I so wish I could make it down. Remember to take pictures of all the great carvings and crafts for Motu nui! Saturday night at Ohana is a great time to show off those hard-earned hetiki tusks. :fez:

Well, I'm not the person with the knowledge to answer that. I'd hope some of the carvers around here will chime in.

That said, I've been talking with Tom Fowner (Aloha Station) and checking in with the people planning to come to the carving jam and it looks like we'll focus on palm frond pendant carving. We'll have some logs and folks are welcome to give it a whirl, but the palm fronds are good for beginners. We'll have exacto blades. Tom recommended some cutting gloves like these: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Harold-Impor ... /194295278 . If anyone definitely wants a pair and doesn't have time to find them, let me know and I'll pick some up.

We're not going to make it Thursday. As far as I can tell you're the only one arriving early, so get the place warmed up for us. Remind Kern that although we're going to the late show Friday, we'll probably be there when the doors open.

BTW, I've counted you in on the dinner reservation.
