Nicole and i are visiting family for the weekend and just hit Kappy's in Peabody. When we walked in they had 4 cases of Appleton V/X for $10 per bottle...they now only have two cases.

This rum is usually around $18 per bottle. They told us that the distributor is changing in January and they are clearing out stock and it may be even more than $18 when it comes back.

Go get 'em!

That sounds pretty good actually. Might need to find a substitute for the ale however.

Looks like the ale is for the mixologist, not the mix

Quote:
For the punch:
8 ounces aged rum
2 1/2 ounces fresh orange juice
1 ounces fresh lemon juice
2 1/2 ounces honey syrup
20 dashes Reagan's orange bitters
1 12-ounce bottle Cooper's Vintage Ale

Procedures
1. Combine honey and warm water. Stir together thoroughly, or combine in a jar and shake until mixed.

2. Combine the rum, orange juice, lemon juice, honey syrup, and bitters in a punch bowl. Stir and serve with ice.

That does sound good. The ale is added into the punch bowl at the end. It's a strong English ale so it will impart some sweetness to the punch along with some other interesting flavors. I may brew up a beer in this style soon so we may have to bring this to the lab.

We've been getting it for $10 a bottle at Drum Hill Liquors in Chelmsford Ma for a while. Hope they don't change distributors as well. :(

if it wasn't going to be snowing like a mofo tomorrow night, someone could have reported back on this lecture on rum in Lexington MA.

Well, that's one way to pay your way through college. Pays better than donating blood and much safer than donating sperm or eggs.

Ok, ok, enough with the poop.

Now, THIS is more like it. Queequegs love a good whaling movie.

Quote:
In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story.

“In the Heart of the Sea” reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

March 2015.

Apparently Kirk Hammett of Metallica has a HUGE collection of classic monster movie posters.

Apparently so huge that there is an exhibit in the museum in my old hometown

I have no idea how this could have possibly come about, but it sounds pretty awesome.

Hopefully some of you can check this out and report back to the group, but I have already bought the book

There are 2 bars in QQ territory - Manchester and Kittery. I at least expect a report from Manchester!

I haven't been to 815 in Manchester, but the owner, Ryan McCabe, also owns Codex in Nashua. Which is also a speakeasy and about a half mile walk through gang territory from my house. I am very fond of Codex and their cocktails and we usually take a walk there when QQ meeting is at my house. Going there this weekend in fact.
