Members of the Order

I hereby state my interest in joining this esteemed group.
My first exposure to things Tiki, was in the 70's, when my folks took my brother and me to a restaurant called Latitude 20 to see the Alii's perform live.
We were surrounded by bamboo and palms, dining on chicken wrapped in foil. These guys were to Don Ho what the Jordanaires were to Elvis Presley.

Family trips to Hawaii and living in coastal California, it was inevitable that I developed a passion for surfing, sailing, snorkeling and other such activities that involve the ocean and start with the letter 'S'. It is in my blood, as my paternal grandfather was from the Malaysia, by way of the Philippine Islands.

Rum came into my world through some neighbors that turned me onto a concoction they called a "Rum Thang" which was Mount Gay Rum and tonic over ice with fresh lime wedge. since then I have enjoyed many varieties of rum, both mixed and on the rocks.

Having now attended two Ohana gatherings at Lake George and seeing that the proceeds benefit the good people of Easter Island, I am further compelled to associate with this group and support where I am able.

Mahalo for your time and consideration.

Sincerely

FLIP

Aloha, and welcome!

I know some are opposed to your "Rum Thang" but I for one support this 100%! Is it my go-to? No, but I enjoyed it in the earlier days and introduced me to Mount Gay!

It is 230 miles from Point Conception to the Mexican Border. Even narrowing it to he 140 miles between Oxnard and Point Loma, that is still a stretch of shoreline.

Surfing, sailing and snorkeling narrows it down.

With the formal salutation, we can strike out San Diego, Ventura and most of Orange Counties.

I guess: Hermosa or Huntington.

I reside in Long Beach. I do surfing at Seal Beach, Bolsa Chica State and Huntington Beach. For shelling, I like Alamitos Bay.

Aloha! I lived in Los Angeles for a hot minute, and enjoyed visiting Huntington and Seal Beach on occasion. My cousin Danny was a member of The Alii's, so that's great to hear they have a place in your fond memories. Glad you have made it to these shores, cheers!

So much shoreline!

I started my coastal California adventures in Humboldt County. I lived in a converted boathouse over a channel of Humboldt Bay. Several years later I began my migration south. I spent 4 years in Alameda, a mere 1/2 block from the bay. Next was about a year in Ventura, 1/2 mile from the beach. Then there were 2 years in San Diego area, including La Jolla, Vista, and Fallbrook, none further than a 20m drive.

Now I am on the East Coast, 2.5 hours from the beach and it feels like forever! Lol...

Vista? I lived in Vista, towards Bonsal, off North Santa Fe.

We still have our little place in San Clemente, and a set of black plates on the S800 Honda for that 2.5 mile drive to the beach.

I love shoreline! My dad was in the Navy so we were always by the Shore. Home, after he retired was Loveladies NJ, on Long Beach Island (my family has had a home there since 1932) in the summer and Fair Haven (on the Navasink River) in the winter. I joined the Navy and was always stationed close to the shore though Willow Grove, PA (northeast of Philadelphia) was a bit far. Now I live 3 miles from the ocean in Fort Lauderdale and, happily, on a canal that goes to the Intracoastal waterway.
