Hi! I'm new to the forum and happy to be here! I'm originally from the northeast but have been in Orlando the last ten years. I'm interested in getting to know members of FOM locally, though I guess the closest chapter is Gumbo Limbo.

Mahalo for having me!

Aloha and Welcome Sukielau !

Yup... Gumbo Limbo is the closest Chapter. TiKiTackett is in O-Town, I'm over in Sarasota but most of the Gumbo Limbo's are in Ft Luaderdale.

How did you find your way to our shores?
What's your Floats your raft ?

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I talk TikiTackett's ear off every morning I see him on the way into work :D

My husband and I love tiki-like most things, probably subconsciously rooted from childhood experiences at Disney and elsewhere. We're regulars at the Hukielau and have volunteered the last couple years in hopes of making new friends.

We are working our way through every bar Humu has listed on Critiki. I'm partial to historical sites rather than the new wave but love both. Tops for me (minus Mai Kai because, well, that's just a given) are Hala Kahiki, La Marianas Sailing Club, Trader Vic's Atl, False Idol and Three Dots. Last on my list (and don't be mad at me) would be Smugglers Cove-too crowded, too pretentious and I was disappointed with the hospitality of the place. Hal a Kahiki felt like I was at home even though it was my first trip to Chicago-not to mention its like a shrine to Witco. I loved it!!

We have our own tiki bar called Sukielau's Lanai Lava Lounge named after our rescue pup Sukie (also a regular at Hukielau) and are well on our way to developing a real tiki mug addiction. I put Tiki Bob on my Christmas List every year. Santa likes to keep me waiting i guess. My favorite mug is probably my Nautilus from Trader Sam's but I have one from the Tonga Room i really love too!

We are going to the Mai Kai this weekend for my birthday/anniversary. I'm giddy just thinking about it!!

Thanks all! If anyone is interested in meeting up for cocktails at the Mai Kai this weekend , we'll be there Friday for dinner/show and Saturday for happy hour at the Molokai. Gumbo-Limbo-ers, if you've been recently, does the Trading Post have any limited edition mugs right now? I really want that Eekum Bookum one of the pole and I think there was another one that was coming out last time we were there but we just missed it.

Anyone have recommendations for other things in Ft. Lauderdale-breakfast joints, antique stores, dog parks, beaches etc please pass along. We're usually there for the Huki and don't have a lot of extra time to see what's outside of Pier 66 :D

Does the Wreck Bar always have mermaid shows or is that a thing just for the event?

I always end up at Peter Pan's or Lester's Diner... but thats not necessarily because they are good... they are just good for "Day After' hangover food. :fez:

There are two shows on Friday and Saturday nights one at 6:30 is the family friendly mermaid show and the 9:30 is the slightly more risque burlesque show. Reservations are recommended 954-727-7090. I would definitely call because I can't tell from Facebook when this was last updated, so it could have changed.

Don't know about the trading post, but you're going in there anyway so you'll see soon enough.

Here's some dog park info, including our dog beach in Hollywood: http://www.hollywoodfl.org/318/Dog-Parks

I'll post more recs tomorrow.
