Though my name may be feral, my intentions are pure-- more rum!

I found out about the FOM trolling Wikipedia's section on Fraternal organizations and secret societies. And a Tiki inspired secret society checks all my boxes.

Hope there are some friendly Atlantans around. See you at Trader Vic's!

Aloha! In Atlanta? Oh you lucky dog, you! Our Tongariki chapter is in Atlanta (and surrounding towns).

Pull up a bar stool and tell us about yourself!

Have you gone to any of the seminars at Trader Vic's? If so, you've already seen the Tongarikis around!

That's what I've heard! I was in the beverage industry for a number of years, hence the name. I've been fascinated with Polynesian Pop and Tiki culture since I was a wee lad-- I have vague memories of lots of cartoons, movies, uncles houses, etc being tiki themed. I've always jived with the aesthetic. I'm more on the food and drink/ music/ beachcombing side of this whole ordeal than the hot rods and burlesque side (though very appreciative of it!). Personally, I'm young, driven, and only a little eclectic (I assume anyone here would be...). Glad to be a tourist!

I have not! Do you know where I could find info on those? I always love a good seminar.

Edit: I seem to have been hitting "Quote" instead of "Edit" on my initial reply. Looking frantically for how to delete them!

Aloha, Rum Hound! Glad you found us (that's both the FOM us and the Tongariki us...).

Summer is a little crazy but you can often find several of us taking over the corner at the Trader Vic's bar. The seminars, while not FOM events, are run by and attended by FOM members so it's an easy way to find us. They're always on a Saturday (5pm-ish) and last an hour or so, which leaves the rest of the evening for whatever shenanigans we can devise (drinking at the bar, drinking at another bar, or heading to a surf music show in Decatur). They are a mix of Tiki history and culture, cocktails, midcentury madness, music, and sometimes sponsored rum tastings. The next one is still TBA, but we can make sure you get all the details.

Feel free to message me here or take a spin around the Tongariki FB page.

Aloha, thanks for the welcome! Glad I found you (both) too!

Those seminars sound right up my alley. Please do keep me in the loop. I'll like the FB page in the meantime too.

I'm usually found in S.O.S. since a friend lives in Decatur, but I'll start making the pilgrimage to Trader Vic's to keep an eye out. I assume I'll be looking for the folks in the Hawaiian shirts?

Ask, maybe get. 8) 8) 8)

The date for the next Seminar at Trader Vic's is Saturday, July 29. Bayou Rum will be doing a tasting. More details later (since our host-with-the-most is currently at Tales of the Cocktail...)

Aloha Rum Hound!

You will be in good hands with the fellow Atlantans at Trader Vic's....unless they're using both hands to secure their 28 oz drink glass...but all I have met are swell!!

Oh Atlanta how I miss my home! (Technically I was in Doraville but close enough) if you have a love of surf music try to see The Intoxicators (I've seen them at Star Bar and The Monster Mash) and El Captain and the band with no name, saw them open for Dick Dale at The Earl. I dream of sitting in the corner bar booth beneath the newspaper lined ceiling with a peachtree punch in my hand... you lucky ducky you.

Where in Doraville did you live? I currently live there in the wonderfully groovy, Northcrest neighborhood.

I lived technically just outside of Doraville in unincorporated Mechanicsville. It was kind of a limbo far as what city I lived in my address officially was Atlanta but we were OTP so it didn't make sense. I lived off of Buford Hwy on Oak Rd. I used to tell my friend my street was right past Hola auto sales and right before the carnerceria. It was true but for Buford Hwy it was still vague. I miss all of the Korean Bakeries and Tower Liquor which was a damn fine liquor store.

I know exactly where you're talking about. My neighborhood is on the other side of I-85 - really close to where you used to live. According to my mortgage paperwork, I live in Doraville, but not officially. It's really unincorporated DeKalb County. I adore living so close to Buford Highway. The Buford Highway Farmers Market is a treasure - they're now importing food from Hawaii! And Tower Liquors is amazing.

The last time I went home I visited my beloved Buford Hwy Farmers market. I may or may not have been in tears when we left knowing I was returning to my new home where I have no options.
