This weekend, Jim and I had people over Saturday night so it was a good opportunity to try that SPAM fries recipe i saw on facebook last week!
https://www.facebook.com/realsaltbae/vi ... 659961457/

We're used to have it in sliders or musubis so I thought the fries would be a nice change..hehe

The verdict : they turned out great! I recommend cutting them thinner than in the video, though. We served them with a dip of sriracha mayo and it was a hit with even the most skeptical of the bunch!

Also, on Sunday, we went to my brother-in-law's and he came out of the blue with the idea of putting some SPAM in the smoker. Being already 3 beers into the day, it seemed like a great idea...so we did.

We put a garlic-hickory rub on it and put it in the smoker for 45 minutes. We then added some BBQ sauce and put it back in for another 20 minutes. The result : OH SO FREAKIN' SALTY!
The taste itself was alright I guess but I really couldn't get passed the salt. Maybe skipping the rub would have been best?

So there you have it! I'm curious to know if you have other good recipes! :)

I'm now off to eat my salad... ;)

I have never thought about trying the Spam Fries...that sounds great...
my old White Trash Cookbook had a recipe for Rack Of Spam, but it was just a spam loaf with cuts along it's length that don't quite go through, mustard in each cut and a peace of cheese...bake it and it fans apart... Really just kind of a joke recipe...
but the Spam Fries sounds great... We should to a Tiki Spam Recipe Challenge...lol

I believe this should be something part of Ohana! heehee
Paul from Velveteen Lounge introduced me to spam sliders on my very first Ohana so it would only be normal to hold a proper cook-off there! ;)

Somewhere, I have a SPAM cookbook. Somewhere.

I have made SPAM scones and those turned out well. Growing up, my father would make SPAM omelettes.

Maybe Captain Quad would consider melding a SPAM cook off with the Old Man Beer Competition (tm).

Awesome idea! This year's unidentified beers started to taste the same. Something to cleanse the palate in between...SPAM!

Did that meal start with an amuse-bouche of SPAM rillette?

I have a neighbor who smoked the spicy SPAM. I had doubts at first but it was quite tasty.

Has anyone ever done musubi with the SPAM Lite? How is it? I feel like the teriyaki would make it okay.

We were just talking about this last week!

woah! I missed quite a bit of this conversation! My darn computer at work sometimes won't let me connect :(

No spam lite over here, nor any of the flavored ones BUT I tried the turkey one at Ohana this year (thank you Paul) and I imagine it would go well in a musubi.

You're getting fancy there! LOL
I'd be more down with the carpaccio than the sorbet, though :P

Spam Lite is so close to it's more fatty counterpart, I really don't think you would notice any difference at all.

In culinary school we did a pineapple teriyaki spam musubi for our Hawaiian class. I've also heard that some people do musubi without the teriyaki. Which do you prefer?

Sounds like this crowd needs a plate of...

Vince Martini's Macadamia Nut Spam Sliders:

Ingredients
2 packages -- Kings Hawaiian rolls
1 can -- Spam (cut into thick slider sized slices
1 1/4 cup -- finely ground Macadamia nuts
3 eggs
2 cups -- Whole Milk
Wasabi Mayo
Fresh Pineapple chunks - smash with spoon in small bowl

All you do...

Macadamia Nut Flour Batter
Finely ground 1 1/4 cups macadamia nuts, for breading your Spam.
Pour milk into bowl and slowly whisk macadamia nut flour into bowl and whisk until smooth
Add eggs and whisk this vigorously
Add dashes of ground pepper and lemon pepper (or other spices) for flavoring

Dip thickly cut Spam slices and pan fry these in skillet heated with spoonful of sunflower oil
These Spam Slices will turn golden brown with slight burning of macadamia nut batter

Dress Kings Hawaiian Rolls with dollop of Wasabi Mayo and spoon of pineapple puree
Add Spam slice and ENJOY!

ALOOOOO-HA!!!

I KNOW, RIGHT?

I once saw they delivered and I considered having them shipped to our US mailing address... but thought it might be a tad extreme just to get buns :P

We'll bring a bunch up for the Montreal Invasion.

King's Hawaiian Rolls go north, smoked meat and St-Viateur bagels go south.
