Aloha!

My name is Pete Weinzettl, hailing from the little island of Toronto, Ontario Canada. I am also known as Tarana-Pete (Tarana is how we pronounce "Toronto" up here in the big smoke of Toronto). You can also find me as "DJ Swankenstein" spinning my coconut-powered turntables, DJing TIKI, Luau, Exotica, Surf, Rockabilly and Retro events all over including YOUR most finest of TIKI events, Ohana Luau at the Lake.
My passion is collecting records, especially Exotica and Lounge music and being a raving completist for artists like Les Baxter, Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, Robert Drasnin etc.

My wife and I collect and decorate our home in mid-century style, which of course includes a continuing work-in-progress TIKI bar, TIKI garden and many, many, many TIKI tchotchkes.

We have attended Ohana, Luau at the Lake 6 years in a row and are good friends with all of the FOM members who organize and attend that event.

Speaking of events, I am currently very active in Toronto working on and organizing TIKI-related events. We currently have a monthly "show" at The Shore Leave called "Shipwreck'd", and have done sponsored events with Kona Brewing, Mount Gay Rum, Goslings Rum, Flor De Cana and others around the city.

I was instrumental in helping (read-"bugging the hell out of") the owners of The Shameful Tiki Room in Vancouver to decide to move ahead and open a location in Toronto which is now a thriving bar in Toronto. I DJ there for events and have also produced a custom video clip loop that plays on all of the Shameful Tiki TVs in Toronto and Vancouver. Maybe you've seen it. :D

Speaking of videos (am I "speaking" too much??), my lovely wife Freda (who will also be putting forth an application here separately) and I also produced many on-line videos of retro events and the TIKI-scene in our city plus the EPIC, "Ohana Luau at the Lake-The Movie".

We love our local retro scene,TIKI bars and restaurants and also travel far and wide to visit as many as we can.

So HECK YES! I'd love to join the FOM.

Much love... Aloha and Maholos from your pal up in Toronto,

Tarana-Pete

Ever since I saw that name on Facebook I've always thought of you as Tarantula Pete. Can't believe I didn't see the real meaning until now.

Welcome!

I thought "Tarana" was one of those special Japanese titles that Shakuhachi masters are given when they complete their studies and are licensed to teach!

Welcome!

Anyone have the link to Toronto Vintage Television #11 at Ohana Luau at the Lake? It's a pain to post video links from a phone.

And thank you so much for that Facebook video with "The Surfragettes"!

I had to leave OHANA early, and videos like that absolutely make my day!
