It was. I went to a few events there, and Halsey did a damn fine job of keeping the tiki spirit alive with his exotica nights, but in general, there was no Aloha spirit.

The drinks I had there were decent, and I was with the original head of the program, Christian, until he said African art can and should be incorporated into tiki. But he did a great job of keeping things running. He left about a year+ ago, and I think it just fell stagnant.

interesting way how history swirls and intersects with itself - Philly being the original capital of the U.S., at which time the pineapple was a conventional symbol of hospitality - returns here in this bar in the form of a punchbowl, this time to serve the mid-20th century symbol of hospitality in the form of TEEKEE...

CRAPPY! Was there last year and enjoyed their cocktails. Although we were the ONLY people there for an good couple of hours. :(
