Thanks all. Forums aren't normally my thing but I put my big girl panties on and jumped in the pool. Just swimming around over here and keeping an eye out for the goat...

So, I guess I should post a little more about me. Hmmm...Let's see.

I'm pretty sure that my love affair with tiki came from growing up in the Midwest and traveling all over the country with my parents to amazing roadside Americana spots. (Still one of my favorite things to do!) I remember being a kid and just staring into indoor tropical waterfalls surrounded by thatch covered walls, fake palms, and bamboo. The beautiful servers in exotic looking outfits bringing us drinks (virgin Pina Coladas for me) and skewers of meat sealed the deal. Where were we? No clue. It didn't matter. I was in heaven, transported by someone else's vision. I was hooked.

Flash forward. Several states and many moves later, I am currently in Durham, NC where we have zero tiki bars but several bartenders mixing up authentic tiki drinks and a small community of tiki enthusiasts. I was fortunate enough to have been in CA for many years where I was able to experience a bit of the tiki revival in the late 90's/early 00's and will be forever grateful for those experiences. (Thank you Bay Area, Ventura, & San Diego.)

Speaking of travel, I love it! Through my adventures, I have met the best people in tiki bars and at related events. As you know, there's nothing like finding your tribe, your ohana, your people. (Thank you!)

I'm also a designer, dressmaker, and costumer. Hence the name, Rocket Betty. (Design name) I specialize in bespoke (custom) clothing, vintage reproduction, costumes, and tailoring. Fun stuff! I also deal in vintage Hawaiian wear and have had the fortune of vending at many events, including Ohana Luau at the Lake. (see you there this year!) Like most of us, I also have experience in a plethora of other areas because...how can I just choose one?

Finally, I have a very, very small collection of tiki mugs because I absolutely LOVE vintage style glassware. The artistry of the mugs is amazing, but I like the feel of glass in my hand and if it has gold on it, all the better! I'm sure there's loads more, but that's all I've got right now.

Cheers! May your glass be full and your bottle never run dry.

Aloha rocketbetty! I'm fairly new to the community myself and although Ohana by the Lake is a bit too far for me, I am local to Ohana by the Sea and will definitely going to make it this year again! Last year was my first and I had an absolute blast. Looking forward to seeing you down in FL and/or at the Mai-Kai!

Ummmm Rod...how to tell you this.....
Not looking like Ohana By The Sea is going to happen this year..
But we could just have a big party at the Mai Kai and make it a mini-event...
Get some local FOM to deliver Mystery Bowls for charity...
hmmmmmmm......

No Luau by the Sea this year.

But when that Florida weather turns August, there is the Hula Hop in Columbus.

Sugar, unless a private jet will be arriving this weekend for transport, I will have to decline. The commute from here is brutal.

Good to see you as well!

Ah yes, the difficulty of attending everything going on. Whorederves was ridiculous and fun. It, however, caused me to miss other things. Lol...

Belated welcome, and MAHALO for the Whorederves! I was too awestruck to grab a cube of boobcheddar, but the cocktail weenies were simply delightful.

Lol... the boobcheddar was served up by my bestie, ZsaZsa RumWhore.

I was the other half of the duo, serving up my cocktail weenies, pimento cheese tits, and the coconut rum soaked pineapple.

So glad you enjoyed!
