For the 4.5 years I've been in this Port, I have intended to seek admission to the hallowed halls of Moai. I kept figuring I should get more active in the forum first, and then kept dropping the ball. However, I have long told Suzanne Long, Skillbilly, and Rugbymatt that if they ever tried to start a NorCal chapter or any activities I would be happy to assist with any grunt work befitting a lowly plebe. Now that they are organizing a get together to introduce the order to possible future initiates, it seems a necessary time to apply to start the process and attempt to complete the five hurdles or whatever else you folks set in my path.

I know a few of you have been a little busy lately in Miami. I am so jealous. Of course I will need an extensive report from the session with the flavored rums. I'm off to USVI next week and look forward to grabbing a few interesting juices.

Aloha,

I'm resurrecting this thread because, after quite a few months of non-involvement in this forum, I want to get back into the discussions. I also want to restate my desire to achieve FOMbership and my willingness to embrace trials and goats. Back in my days as a barrister, thirty plus years ago, I encountered a few trials. Never knew any goats, though, although if one counts the acronymic use of GOAT then Smuggler's Cove's place in the pantheon of rum bars surely merits the phrase.
About me: In rum bars and at rum events, I am generally known as Chiwito, a phonetic spelling of the Colombian word for my totem animal, the capybara. My home bar is known as the CapyBar in homage to the same animal. Said bar is relatively elaborate. It was designed and mostly built by a chap named Notch; many of you know him. Those who don't might be familiar with some other places he's built: Smuggler's Cove, Whitechapel, False Idol.... The big tiki, sort of our logo, is by Tiki Diablo; again, many of you know him and others have been to bars he designed or own the mugs he sculpts for places like Mai Kai and Forbidden Island. The bar has an extensive collection of decor from various tiki bars that have gone out of business or burned down. The CapyBar has well over 100 rums. In a fact that may well reduce my credibility as a rum guy, we also have about 80 coconut rums and coconut rum liqueurs, many only available on the islands where they are produced.
I own a small piece (a bit less than 2%) of my favorite distillery, Lost Spirits. I am talking with a couple of people interested in opening rum or tiki bars about making small investments. I consult for the owners of a new rum bar in San Francisco, Rum&Sugar. I do a few other things that involve rum consumption, but I am best known for my rather compulsive approach to every bar that has a rum list or club or loyalty program. Black Tassel at the Cove. Four time Adventurer at Longitude. All my past and present dogs are members of the Kill Devil Club at Forbidden Island, for all the times that they helped me finish the lists. Rum&Sugar doesn't even have a list yet, but it will soon. Meanwhile, I need a head start on some of the powerdrinkers in the Bay Area, so I've had a taste of every rum on their shelves, 201 so far.
Looking forward to revisiting some old discussion threads and getting to know some of your better.

Very well played, Professor. People have often posted pics of capybaras/chiguiros/chiwitos on my threads on Facebook or various discussion websites. However, none have been as specifically appropriate to the topic and context. While I am not particularly addicted to booze, I am totally addicted to compulsively and repeatedly finishing rum lists, clubs and loyalty programs; so much so that the pic is a perfect metaphor.

Thank you much, Rugger. I look forward to reengaging. Also, Keri has been to the Lake George area in the past and liked it, so that may be my lever to get her to agree that we should go to Ohana some year soon.
Meanwhile, it is always great to see you at the Cove, the Island, and Vic's. (And hope to get you to check out Rum&Sugar soon).

I love capybaras!

Not sure how well goats do, though...

But I imagine they'll loooove them/you.

That's great, it is very important to let other Fellows outside of NorCal get to know you in meat space as well as on the boards. See you around town but hope you can make Ohana or one of the other FOM events.

Capys are rather famous for getting on affectionately with members of other species. There are collections all over facebook and other aspects of the internet of capys cuddling with cats, bunnies, birds, and all sorts of critters. Never seen any capybara-and-goat pictures, but I suspect that they get along just fine. After all, I don't recall ever having seen any Capybara-monkey pix either until this thread.
