I had been planning for a while to use my holiday time off to get some serious work done on the bar. I had to spend a few days organizing and shelving all of the craft/work supplies along the back wall then creating a faux wall in front of it to max out the available lounge space. My main goal for this round was to get all of the walls in order so that you feel completely immersed when you first walk in without any cement blocks peeking out to break the illusion. There is still a lot of work left to do, the bar itself still needs to be built out (it is in a temporary fabric-covered-skeleton state) but that is a project for a later date. There are a lot of cheats here, since we are currently renting this house and don't know yet if we plan to buy it I don't want to do anything too permanent. Every bit of this, aside from the small bit of painting, is completely able to be transported to a future bar if necessary. Anyway, here are the good parts:

Excellent work! I like the use of the up lighting for your mug shelves and in other areas. It's something I'm looking into playing around a bit more myself in my bar.

Thanks! yeah, that lighting was the most fun to play with. The red on the tiki mugs is a couple of led strips from ikea that can either stay on any color you set it to or rotate through the rainbow. The bits of blue on either side of the tv screen are these silly little led lit speaker/fountains that squirt water up in beat to the music. The light in the tiki shrine corner next to the bar is my favorite, it's one of those prop store pieces that lights up like a glowing torch, with fans blowing fabric up to look like flames. When it is on and the room is dark the light flickering off of everything is really a neat effect. Now I just have to get all of the useless flex duct in the ceiling hidden so my lights don't all reflect off of it!

Wow, that's fantastic. Mine is kind of stalled, but hopefully the new year will bring new opportunities.

Very nice. I actually just put those same Ikea LEDs on my mug shelves.

Imagine what the old school places would have done with the lighting technology we have today, right?

They'd certainly have less lightswitches.

Nicely done! Love the lighting. We have a "seasonal" garage tiki bar (it all moves outside in the summer) but I wish we had a permanent set up like yours. We may just have to create a secret treasure map of all of the home tiki bars in Atlanta and have a basement/garage tiki bar crawl!
