I was going to buy a carton of store brand eggnog tonight to go with the bottle of Myers's Dark that I bought, but they didn't have any, and I didn't feel like driving to another store. I'll have to try some of this, but currently I don't have any heavy cream or eggs.

Store-bought egg nog and some Kraken spiced rum makes for a nice drink. I actually tried it with the "light" egg nog (which will only blow up half your arteries) and it was still quite good.

They used to make a fat free egg nog (blasphemous, I know) but I'm allergic to the egg yolks. I used to mix the fat free with milk, add a heapin' helpin' o' rum, blend, and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Now that I'm in Sacratomato, I have to make due with light egg nog, cut it with milk, add even more rum, and garnish. More rum and milk=less care about the egg yolk allergy.

For fancy times, I throw some vanilla ice cream on top in a big punch bowl. And if you are nice, I'll share my punch bowl of 'nog with you...but bring your own straw!!

Looks like I'd better go in and get a refill, speaking of rum with egg nog...

Yes, that was very good! I forgot that you used Seven Tiki.

The holidays are approaching so you should probably get to mixing now so as to be ready...

12 large eggs, just the yolks, use the whites for something else.
1 pound sugar
1 pint half-n-half
1 pint whole milk
1 pint heavy cream
1 cup Jamaican rum
1 cup cognac
1 cup bourbon
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (plus more for serving)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Beat the yolks with the sugar and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl until the mixture lightens in color and falls off the whisk in a solid "ribbon."

Combine dairy, booze and salt in a second bowl or pitcher and then slowly beat into the egg mixture.

Move to a large glass jar (or a couple of smaller ones) and store in the fridge for a minimum of 2 weeks. Yes, you can also drink it right away but the wait will be worth it.

Serve in mugs or cups topped with a little extra nutmeg grated right on top.

This recipe came from Mr Alton Brown and has been FOM Test Kitchen Tested and Approved.

I am a huge fan of coquitos; they are my very favorite seasonal cocktails and whether or not any holiday season is worth celebrating depends in large part on whether or not Forbidden Island has them on their seasonal menu. A good substitute is eggnog and a quality coconut rum (like Wray & Nephew's Cocomania, Kalani, Koloa, or Siesta Key Toasted Coconut).
