So the Tiki Resort is already full up for the 2019 Ohana Luau...

If a newbie is interested in going what are their best options if they want to go but still feel like they are part of the event?

Get to the Tiki Resort early, check yourself into Bargoyle's room ( much coveted patio room with a heart-shaped bath tub ) lock the door and claim squatters rights.
That's what I usually do.

The great part about Ohana is that no matter where you stay, you can still feel part of the event. Lots of people stay at The Windsor, which is a cool, mid-century time capsule. Some people camp at the Battleground Campground which is litterally on the other side of the back wall of the tiki (they have camp sites that are up against the wall)

The Tiki Resort was already full for Ohana XI before Ohana X.

You don't want to snooze when tickets go on sale.

We did our first Ohana staying at the Holiday Inn across the street.

My hubby and I are first timers as well this coming Ohana and I booked my room at the Windsor but I know friends who are staying at the Holiday Inn as well.

We booked our room already and the Windsor is not that big FYI. We called and put ourselves on the wait list for the main building but I know that is a pipe dream.

Lets have all the newbies at the Windsor, it will be fun!!

Some Ohana day, there will be unsanctioned room crawl rooms at the Windsor and the campground.

As long as you are on the wait list, you have a shot. Keep your backup for now, the Tiki cancellation is 30 days from the start of the stay, so there will be a flurry of cancellations between 30-60 days out from those who can’t make it.

Hey, I called the Sunday after Ohana and I’m on the waitlist too.

See you at Ohana 11!

I was on the waitlist for The Tiki and had reservations at the Windsor my first year. I was fortunate enough to actually get a room at the Tiki. Magic can happen!

I’ve reserved a room at The Windsor, but need to call and get on the waitlist after work. Looking forward to it!

Great, I'll try reservations at the Windsor and get on the wait list too. I'd be good with camping but I don't think my wife would like it so much.

Thanks for all the input!

What happens is, as we're checking out of the Tiki Lodge at the end of an Ohana event, we all reserve our rooms for next year. So if it was fully booked this year, it will be fully booked next year. But definitely use the other peoples suggestions and get on the waiting list for the Tiki Lodge. Because so many of us book the room a year in advance, you never know what will come up before next year's event, and many people will end up cancelling, some at the last minute, so don't lose hope.
Also, make sure to call the Tiki Resort directly. They block all the rooms for our event, so if you try to use something like Trip Advisor, it will show as unavailable. Call the front desk of the lodge and get on the waiting list.
Or use TikiVee's suggestion and steal Bargoyle's room.... but you didn't hear that from me.
Desperate times call for desperate measures...
And when the Ohana tickets go on sale, GET ON IT IMMEDIATELY! They sell out fast. Ohana X sold out in just a few hours!
Good luck, and hope to see you there no matter where you're staying.

the bathroom schedule was already a nightmare with the people we had and now there's gonna be more?

I usually stay at The Lake View Inn, directly across the street.

Image

A lovely no star establishment, offering only the most squalid of amenities.
Such as, heavily stained sheets, putrid array of lingering smells, unflushable toilets and the most comprehensive collection of errant pubic hair you've ever seen.
Not only is it centrally located, making it an easy walk to local bars and restaurants, but each room is impeccably littered with the most up-to-date strains of impossibly resilient bacteria.

If you're tired of having a fully functioning immune system or never getting shanked by a crackhead, than give The Lake View Inn a try!

I stayed there once, to get into the whole dirty biker scroties vibe. Method acting and all. It did the trick!

We stayed at the Super 8 that was just down the street.

Now, if you had bought one of our body condoms...uh, sleeping bags, you would be safely ensconced in pillowy goodness. Safe from any vile fluids from the ghost of Tiki Vee's past.

Unless we were able to sanitize the entire Tiki and out to a radius of about 3.14 miles, I don't think that statement will ever be true.

You're both going to have to try a lot harder than that to contain me.

The FOM Frogman Unit has some Viking vulcanized rubber haz mat drysuits and Kirby Morgan MK 25 lightweight hardhats. But they are for protecting the diver from the environment not the population from Vee.

You'd have to shop a gummy party supply store for that.

Further research has found this Japanese gadget. While keeping fluids contained...I'm not so sure about the thought of one's bottom area "stewing" in them. I have no idea if there is a third tube and I'm not sure I want to.

Well, I put that suggestion to my fellow roommates this past Ohana. I was looking to do an RV rental - but there's no hookup so meh. It was overall shot down, which is good. Considering how hot it was, I'm glad we had a hotel room.

There was an Ohana with significant rain.

Some folks like camping in the rain, some even snow and ice. This camping is difficult to understand.
