Stopping in Manhattan this Saturday on my way out of town on business. Besides the usual stops, The Flamingo and Paradise have been recommended. Has anyone been to either? Anything else off the beaten path?

Thanks!

Hmmm....I have lived in Manhattan for the last 15 years and I have never heard of Flamingo or Paradise - do you have any additional details?

For "tiki" in Manhattan, I recommend the Polynesian, Underdog, Mother of Pearl, Boilermaker, Otto's Shrunken Head and Reunion. If you include Brooklyn I would add Clover Club, Super Power, Diamond Reef and Zombie Hut. Some of those may be on your list of usual spots, but I list them just to be sure!

I put quotes around tiki because these places have varying amounts of "traditional" tiki bar decor and tropicalness, but they are enjoyable.

For non-tiki drinking (and eating) there are tons of great options - Dead Rabbit, Amor y Amargo, Kitana Kitten, Existing Conditions, Death & Co., Cuba Rum Bar, Ofrenda, etc.

if you give me a specific part of town you will be visiting or would like to focus on I can provide a drinking itinerary.

The Flamingo:

Paradise (More rum bar than tiki bar, I believe):

Glady’s (Caribbean / rum):

This is a one-day layover on my way to the Dominican Republic, where I hope to at least grab some good rum to bring home. ;)

Polynesian, Mother of Pearl, and Death & Co. are always on my list (Otto’s only if I’m entertaining customers), but I’ll be googling some of the others. Thanks!
