All,

I am wondering what typ of wood would be long lasting for a carved sign for my Tiki Bar. I will be painting some of it, but most will be bare. I am new to the Hakaau Tarai portal and I want to get your suggestions.

Thanks,

LikwidTIKI,

Is your sign going to be inside or out?
You may get some opinions on wood types, but I believe any wood will last forever if you put the correct finish on it.
If it will be outside you should consider a spar urethane. It is a marine quality polyurethane that will stand up to almost anything nature can throw at it. Don't use a standard polyurethane because after a short time it will yellow and peel off your sign.
However, if it will be inside, then just about any finish you put on it will work just fine. I personally like using Watco liquid wax covered with a hand rubbed paste wax. But a standard poly or clear Krylon would work well also.
