Erick Purkhiser better know as Lux Interior of The Cramps. One of the greats.

Quote:

For Immediate Release:
February 4, 2009

Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps, passed away this morning due to an
existing heart condition at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale,
California at 4:30 AM PST today. Lux has been an inspiration and influence
to millions of artists and fans around the world. He and wife Poison Ivy's
contributions with The Cramps have had an immeasurable impact on modern
music.

The Cramps emerged from the original New York punk scene of CBGB and Max's
Kansas City, with a singular sound and iconography. Their distinct take on
rockabilly and surf along with their midnight movie imagery reminded us all
just how exciting, dangerous, vital and sexy rock and roll should be and has
spawned entire subcultures. Lux was a fearless frontman who transformed
every stage he stepped on into a place of passion, abandon, and true
freedom. He is a rare icon who will be missed dearly.

The family requests that you respect their privacy during this difficult
time.

Man, so sad. He is one of the all time great performers! I will never forget seeing him when I was 15 climbing up onto the speaker stack in his leather thong underwear humping away.

Sad, indeed. What a pisser. Gonna go cry now and listen to records. Surely there's a drink that can be made in honor of the good man.

LuRu, that's really neat that you got to see them live.

Fantastic! I can't wait to try these drinks. I was trying to come up with a Lux Interior, but I decided it required Chambord and Creme de cacao and I didn't have either of those ingredients ...

:( What a drag! Luckly I got to see the Cramps numerous times over the years, and they always put on a fabulous show.

It says in his obit that he was from Stow Ohio.

Lux Interior: Starts with Chambord and Creme de cacao.... That's genius! :D Unlike the drinks I posted, this would probably taste really good. :drunk:

this one kills me. it reminds me of when i first got into the idea of tiki at my punk rock tiki room venue/flop house. this tiki room consisted of citronella torches nailed to the walls and mixing what ever booze we had with some fruit punch. my room-mate had a styrofoam 44 oz. cup that he drew a tiki onto. i had one kahiki headhunter mug and we would sit around and listen to this time life bachelor pad martini madness lounge cd and imagine that it was all pretty swank.

:D Well, you wouldn't expect a drink called "Aloha From Hell" to actually be good? I forgot one ingredient; a dash of Strychnine. I'll have to edit that.

LOL! Ah, the good 'ol days. I remember making a lot of Mai Tais with a recipe that called for Creme de Almond. :barf: Yeah, now I know better, but it scratched that tiki itch back in the day.

Man, I'm bummed out. I haven't been this sad over a celebrity death since Joey Ramone died. This sucks. I'm listening to "Psychadelic Jungle/Gravest Hits" and drinking Rum Moonrakers. Yeah, I didn't have any Hawaiian Punch on hand, so it'll have to do.

"The Rock n' Roll Daddy has done passed on, but these bones'll keep a-rockin' on after I'm gone."

Fuckin' A. I feel better now.

To Lux!!!

So, I'm looking over my Cramps collection for drink inspiration.

The Mad Daddy
1.5 oz. Old Crow
1.5 oz. Well Tequila
1.5 oz. Absinthe
6 oz. strong black coffee
2 tablets "No Doze" or your legal over-the-counter truckstop speed of choice.

Pour coffee into your ugliest tiki mug. Crush truckstop speed and stir into coffee. Add liquor and stir. Garnish with a Pixie Stick and a rusty shiv.

Yeah, I can see what you're all thinking. "OK. We get it CK likes The Cramps. It was cute at first, but now it's just annoying." Subtlety has never been my strong suit, and I'll probably keep on mourning and posting godawful Cramps cocktails for the next week.

This is bad, but it could be worse. You all realize that when Danzig finally gets called back home to hell, I'll be absolutely inconsolable, right? I could potentially show up on any of your doorsteps in tears, brandishing a case of PBR and a stack of Misfits vinyl. This applies to Honui outside the Columbus Metropolitan area, too.

No one is safe.

Damn, I love The Cramps. I got to see them live once. It was awesome.

TO LUX!!!

I love that you incorporated trucker speed in this drink--Tane and I had a friend who liked to put trucker speed in White Castle sliders ... hence the "speed burger" was born.

My door is open.

Currently listening to "Legacy of Brutality" as I type.

Brings me back to my skateboard days at The Turf.

The Cramps and The Misfits... and a 8 foot Clover Bowl with pool coping and tile... absolute heaven.

:?  "Speedburger".....LOL!!!!

I can't imagine what that must have done to your friend's digestive track. Heh heh heh heh.

Note to self: Add Lakesurfers address to your Misfits bug-out-bag.

Now more than ever I can't believe we didn't actually know Tane in our Cincinnati days, or Cowtown in our Columbus days. How many of the same shows must we have been at?

Well, considering I split a lot of time between Columbus and Cincinnatuh during my late teens and 20's, and therefore went to a lot of shows at the Newport/Bogarts Stache's/Sudsy's I'd guess... oh, about all of them. It is odd that our paths never crossed until The FOM. You, LuRu, Tane, Matariki and I should all sit down at the next event and go over our six-degrees-of-separation. Well, I reckon it'll end up being 1 or 2 degrees, yet I digress.

As of tomorrow it will be exactly 3 years since Lux Interior cast off this mortal coil. I hope many of you will join me in spinning Cramps tunes and mourning one of the all-time greats.

I miss the Cramps too. Saw them in Memphis in 1983. Wow, that was a life changing evening for me.

Thankfully I got to see them a few times in the way back when.
The last one was in Tempe in '03 and they were every bit as fabulous as the first time I saw them, in '90.
They played the "new" Nita's Hideaway, and blew the roof offa the place.

Wish I could've seen 'em play. Unfortunately, Western Canadian destinations (Alberta and Saskatchewan) are often left off the tour schedules. And I'm too poor to travel much...

Post subject:  Re: RIP Erick Purkhiser aka Lux Interior

Saw The Cramps in Austin in '88-'89 or so? Flat Duo Jets opened for them. Lux was the only singer in the biz who could wear leather panties, red high heels, and sing with a mic sticking out of his mouth... all while humping a speaker column... and totally pull it off! That was the night I fell in LUV with Poison Ivy... one badass lady, she is!
