I remember him hocking his records on the tube when I was a kid.

Aww. :( My grandfather's center console always contained a couple Slim Whitman 8-tracks, plus one in the player. To gentler times.

Remember the stir the original TV commercial created?

"More hits than Elvis and The Beatles..." and of course his main fame and record sales came from that TV ad!!!

The guy could yodel!

I remember his commercials claiming he had sold zillions of records... and I had never even heard of the guy! If he sold zillions before the commercial he sold tens of zillions after the commercials!

In all honesty I thought the guy died about 20 years ago..and was about 90 then. I remember those ads...I think he was really famous in an alternate universe or something..like western music (as opposed to country...)..whatever that exactly means. He apparently really did have a musical following and earned his chops..but we all remember him from the cheesy commercials.

RIP Slim Whitman! I have a feeling you have a legion of followers waiting for you on the flip side!

Western music is fun to play loud in convertible cars cruising the coast highways. When it has yodeling, it's all the better.

We prefer Roger Whittaker in our household. However, Slims version of Tenneessee Yodel Polka is unparalleled.
