For the Disneyphiles, Robert Sherman one half of the Sherman Brothers song writing team passed away yesterday. The Sherman Brothers were the writers of the majority of songs used in the Disney films (and theme parks) of the 1960s and 1970s including Mary Poppins, Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh along with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. My favorite is the Carousel of Progress theme song, "It's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow." And for those wondering, yes the ear worm "it's a small world" was written by them. But to redeem that, they did write the Enchanted Tiki Room song.

Saddens me deeply. I recently became obsessed with that great documentary their sons made about them.

"All around the cathedral the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares
Although you can't see it,
You know they are smiling
Each time someone shows that he cares..."

Farewell Mr. Sherman.

I never realized that the Sherman Brother's father was the Tin Pan Alley legend Al Sherman.

The Sherman Brothers did 7 of the 8 songs for "The Jungle Book." The exception was "The Bare Necessities," which was the only song out of seven written by Terry Gilkyson. Walt Disney thought the rest of Terry's material was too dark for the movie. Damn, I wish someone could find those tunes, I bet they are extremely cool!

Blondi- CCBB is not a Disney film...but most people think it is....but still great Sherman Brothers songs, the original story by James Bond author Ian Fleming and adaptation by Roald Dahl.

I did not mean for my post to school Blondi, but us Disney Geeks are very protective......and strive for historical accuracy....which I guess makes me a Disney snob!

No, you're a Disneyland snob. Which is why I think you're awesome!
